During 1881 George Fesq, wine and spirit merchant of Sydney had an 11 room stone and brick house, pantry and shed in the course of construction on land bounded by Gale and Palser (The Point Road) Streets, on which he paid oniy half the year’s rate. He lived here for many years, while he built houses in Gale Street and Mayfield Avenue (the frontage was then in Hunter Street). This house was called Verdelais by Fesq in Sands Directory, but appeared from 1912 as The Jungle.
