Thomas Cuneo, or possibly his father (see 35 and 37 Alexandra Street adjacent to this site) built this pair of houses. By 1881 Thomas Cuneo was letting Madeira Cottage, a four-room stone house (presumably one of these) to James Stanner, formerly the postmaster. During the 1890s Garibaldi Cuneo, plumber, and Charles Cuneo lived in them. 1 Foss Street has been called Marveen.
