Ponziano Cavalli paid 7s 6d rates on a cottage and land here from April 1869 to January 1871. This building is the front of a small cottage, the stone portion remaining, the timber portion has gone. After Mrs Walker bought the land (see Hurworth, next door) she built a two-storey shingle house with a fashionable tile roof and octagonal turret. Cavalli’s rough stone cottage remained as an outbuilding or separate cottage as a rental. A postman is said to have lived in it.
