This pair of timber cottages is typical of those built in this area in the 1880s. Jean Tournier was a gardener living in Woolwich Road in 1882; he purchased 60 Mary Street in 1883 but did not live here until 1888, then after ten years working at Gladesville Hospital he returned and lived here for a number of years. 62 Mary Street was owned by an Italian workman, Cristofer Chilardotti, from 1878 to 1893 and occupied by him in 1882 (Sands Directory).
