James Nutman of Nutman and Fox, builders (see The Gladstone), paid the first rate on this house in 1881. He owned vacant land here in 1880. Miss Ellen Goodridge is said to have lived here; Sands Directory listed many occupants in this part of the street for years with many changes of house names.
