A map which pre-dates 1880 of the Joubert subdivision, including St Joseph’s College, shows this cottage and 3 Short Street (which used to match) already built and belonging to Arthur Duboise and his wife Rose (nee Joubert), then resident in New Caledonia. Sands Directory shows Mrs Duboise living in Short Street in 1893-94, and the Municipal Roll of 1893 listed her owning cottages in Short Street. Mrs Duboise also owned property in Luke Street and The Avenue which extended from the present Mount Street to Avenue Road.
