In 1914 Ruby Windeyer, wife of William Archibald Windeyer, purchased many lots on the southern side of Avenue Road and extending to Ryde Road, from Numa Joubert. Numbers 6, 8, 10, 12, 14 and 16 Avenue Road, 7 and 17 Ryde Road were built between 1914 and 1920. 12 Avenue Road is the only one of these houses to retain its original appearance; it is a  Queen Anne style house of the Federation period with Marseilles terracotta tiles, red brick, rough cast on gable and painted woodwork.
